Boarding

The Cathedral School is home to approximately 160 boarding students from many different backgrounds, including those from rural families, coastal and island communities and overseas. A happy and safe environment, modern facilities and delicious meals make it the ideal home away from home.

Boys and girls from Years 7 to 12 are accommodated in separate dormitories, where they are cared for by live-in house parents and dormitory supervisors. Staff take care to establish a friendly and supportive environment based on co-operation, trust and mutual respect.

Facilities

Accommodation

Boarders live in modern, air-conditioned dormitories, complete with their own study desk, lockable storage and national broadband internet access. Year 11 and 12 students have private rooms whilst younger boarders share with 1-3 other students, but individual areas allow for privacy and individuality.

The Cathedral School is committed to providing the highest standards in boarding accommodation, with $8 million being spent on extensions and refurbishments to both the boys' dormitory (Akins) and the girls' dormitory (Sister Frances) in recent years.

Dining

The catering staff at The Cathedral School provide boarding students with nutritious and satisfying home cooked meals, three times a day. Morning and afternoon tea are also provided on school days, and fresh fruit is always available.

Meals are served in the air-conditioned dining room at the following times: Breakfast 7.30am; Lunch 1pm; Dinner 6pm, but there are variations to this routine on weekends, depending on the program of activities arranged.

A qualified chef ensures that the menu contains a variety of meals which meet the needs of all students. The menu is available on request.

Laundry

Laundry is done on the school premises. Uniforms, casual clothes and towels can be taken to the Laundry daily (Monday to Friday); bed linen is washed on a designated day, once a week.

The clothing is folded, sorted and put into the individual pigeonholes in the Laundry for students to collect and return to the dormitory. All items must be clearly named to allow for easy identification and return to their rightful owners.

Washing machines, clotheslines and dryers are also available in the dormitories for limited use.
