Early Learning Centre & Pre-Prep Centre

The Early Learning Centre and Pre-Prep Centre are located within the beautiful grounds of The Cathedral School, looking out over majestic rain trees and the picturesque lagoon.

Children from 6 weeks to school age are able to participate in age-appropriate programs under the watchful eye of professional and caring staff. With an emphasis on learning through play and positive social interactions with peers, children begin developing the frameworks for a life-long educational journey.

The Cathedral School’s Early Learning Centre and Pre-Prep Centre aim to provide a safe, caring and Christian environment which supports the learning and personal development of each child. Learning is seen as a partnership and shared responsibility between the Centre, family and student. A climate of mutual trust and respect is created through open, positive communication between staff, parents and children.

Programs and practices are developmentally and age appropriate, and are designed to support and foster the social, emotional, cognitive, creative and physical development of each child.

Hours of Operation

Both Centres are open from 7.00am to 6.00pm for 50 weeks of the year. The Centres are closed on weekends and public holidays, and there is a two-week closure around Christmas each year.

The Pre-Prep Centre also offers a ‘school-hours only’ program with a qualified early childhood teacher from 8.35am to 3.00pm during school terms.

Accreditation

Both Centres are licensed long-day care providers and a range of government regulations and benefits apply.

The Quality Improvement and Accreditation System (QIAS) monitors the programs and quality of care provided, and the financial arrangements of Child Care Benefit (CCB) and child care tax rebates will assist families with the cost of their children’s care at our Centres.

Quality Improvement and Accreditation

The Cathedral Early Learning Centre will be participating to the highest standard in the Quality Improvement and Accreditation System.

The Quality Improvement and Accreditation System (QIAS) aims to provide children in centre based care throughout Australia with high quality care that best promotes their learning and development in the vital early years. The broad objective of the QIAS is to ensure that children in long day care have stimulating, positive experiences and interactions that foster all aspects of their development. It does this by defining quality in long day care and by providing a frame work for measuring quality in child care setting.

Uniforms

Children in the Early Learning Centre are not required to wear a uniform but should wear appropriate clothing depending on the weather conditions.

Children in the Pre-Prep Centre are required to wear The Cathedral School sports uniform which consists of the navy sports shorts and polo shirt with the navy sports hat. Uniforms are available from The Cathedral School Uniform Shop.

Sun Smart Policy

“NO HAT – NO PLAY” “SLIP, SLOP, SLAP”

The Cathedral School realises the need to protect children’s skin and educate them about SunSmart behaviour, thus reducing the risk of skin damage from exposure to the sun.

We ask that sunscreen is applied to children before attending the centre each day. Staff will reapply sunscreen during the day when required. Parents may choose to supply their own sunscreen.

Immunisation

We fully support age appropriate childhood immunisation. On enrolment we require to sight original certificates. If children are not immunised we will require relevant Commonwealth documentation.

Both centres follow exclusion guidelines for children and staff with infectious diseases. We will exclude any child from care if they are not immunised, when there is a case or outbreak of one of the childhood diseases for which there is immunisation.

Meals

The centres do not supply meals. We encourage children to bring healthy and nutritious snacks, meals and drinks. Fridges are supplied in each room for cool storage. Children depending on their length of stay will need to bring, 1, 2 or 3 meals and drinks: morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

To encourage good health, nutrition and dental health we encourage parents not to send chips, lollies, chocolates, chewing gum and fizzy drinks.

We are a NUT FREE ZONE and encourage parents not send foods containing nuts especially peanuts and peanut butter. This limits the risk to children who may suffer severe allergies to nuts.
