Entry Requirements
International students attending The Cathedral School are integrated into mainstream classes with ESL support, so they need sound academic performance and a moderate level of English ability when they commence at the School.
An Application for Enrolment must include copies of the student’s school reports for the past 3 years. (If these are not in English, a certified translation is required.) A written reference from the School Principal is also required if the school reports do not record student behaviour or commitment to studies.
Students entering primary school need evidence of commitment to studies and age-appropriate achievement in literacy and numeracy areas of the curriculum, and basic English language ability.
Students entering Years 7 to 9 need to show commitment to studies and satisfactory results. Minimum standard would be a pass level (‘C’ grade) in the majority of core subjects and in school-based English studies over the past 3 years. An English language test (supplied by The Cathedral School or one of our agents) may be used to determine a suitable year-level placement for the student.
Students entering Year 10 to 12 need to show commitment to studies, good academic results and English ability. Minimum standard would be a pass level (‘C’ grade) in the majority of core subjects at the completion of Year 9, and at least 4 years of English language study with a high level of achievement (‘B’ grade) in the latest reports. Independent testing of English language ability may also be required, and results should reveal a score of 61 or better on the AEAS test, or a score of 5 or better on the IELTS test.
Students who do not meet the English language requirements may be required to complete an intensive High School Preparation Course prior to entry to The Cathedral School. This can be delivered through our partnerships with Imagine Education on the Gold Coast or one of the English Language Colleges in Townsville.
